ABOUT

I created Susy Walsh Wellness as a way to bring together the different modalities that I truly believe can be most supportive to our bodies, minds and spirits (and don’t treat them as separate entities because they’re not!) in this mad mad world .

Everything I offer is to help you feel more at home in your own body, more at ease and more at peace. There’s no ‘one size fits all’ solution when it comes to wellness so I’m here to explore with you, what works, what lands, what feels right for you.

There’s regular yoga sessions, sound bathing experiences, one-to-one sound therapy, retreats and more.

I’m also passionate about how the stresses of modern life simply don’t sit well with the needs and rhythms of our human nature and it’s my belief this is one of the main reasons why so many of us are ill, overwhelmed, disconnected and feeling lost. This is why I love sharing sacred rest practices, embodied movement, crystal medicine and more esoteric offerings.

MY PHILOSOPHY

Movement is medicine Our bodies were designed to move but most of us don’t move as much as we should or in the ways we were born to. Movement practices should support your daily functionality but they can also be so much more - liberating, therapeutic and a vital part of our wellness. My movement offerings range from the restorative to the ecstatic but all with the aim of getting you out of your head and into the felt experience of your body, providing you with agency to move in the way that feels good to you. What I practice and share is informed and inspired by Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Tantra and Somatics.

Sound is medicine Discovering sound as a healing modality has been one of the most profound experiences for me and I’m passionate about spreading the message of this ancient medicine that lives in our very DNA. Sound was there in the very beginning and some theorise, the source of all life on earth - it’s one the first things we become aware of, even before we’re born. In sound we can reconnect, release and return to self. Sound bathing provides an alternative to more traditional meditation practices with all the same incredible benefits.

Yoga is for everybody Yoga is one of the cornerstones of my own wellness practice and the first type of movement I experienced where I could tangibly feel the benefits. Unfortunately in the West it has, for the most part, morphed into a physical gymnastics-style practice that puts a lot of people off as they think they’re not ‘flexible enough’ or the right body shape. This is the complete antithesis of yoga and one of my priorities is ensuring yoga feels accessible to everyone. I’m here to help you find what works for you.

Rest is radical
We live in a world where our value is measured by how productive we are and we’re made to feel guilty for wanting space to simply be, to breathe, to do nothing. Rest is not a reward or something you fit in when you can - it’s absolutely essential to our survival and we cannot hope to flourish without it. Allowing yourself true rest is now a radical act, join me in the rest revolution :)

We heal in community Modern society is very individualistic and has us believing we must do it all by ourselves but as humans, we’re community creatures, even the most introverted (me!) need others for true wellness. Whether it’s spending time with like-minded hearts, sharing laughter or resources or simply having others witness us as we are, it’s all incredible powerful and very much needed. I love retreats for this very reason - even if just for a weekend, we experience the nourishment of community.

Wellness is holistic Western medicine approaches the human body and mind as different parts (it doesn’t even concern itself with the spirit!) and treats them accordingly in isolation. This can offer short-term relief but often doesn’t address the root causes of what sets us on the path to dis-ease. The health of your spirit is just as important as the health of your body.

I’m here to share, not teach I don’t have all the answers and I’m muddling through life like everyone else! I’ve not ‘mastered’ yoga or any other modality I explore because I don’t think one can in one lifetime :) I simply share what works for me, what lights me up and what my body loves. I can pass on the knowledge I’ve acquired but you are your only true teacher.

MY WELLNESS STORY

I know what it’s like to not feel at home in your own body. As a child and into my teens I suffered with chronic asthma, I grew up believing my body, specifically, my lungs, were broken - not doing the one simple thing they should just know how to do - breathe properly. My body was something that would fail me, hospitalise me, panic my parents. There was a constant tightness in my chest and taking deep breaths was a conscious effort. Movement was something that left me struggling to catch my breath, something that hurt my chest and throat. I had no interest in running around, playing sports or even dancing - moving hurt, brought on an attack or landed me in bed with an infection. My own body did not feel like a safe place and moving it did not bring me joy.

In my late teens I appeared to just grow out of my asthma. This ‘thing’ that had been such a defining aspect of my whole life to date just faded away, but the idea that movement could be fun or liberating was still not on my radar. It was only once I got to University and first discovered yoga through the student classes there that the penny dropped. I was suddenly physically strong and flexible and felt lighter and happier. I soon noticed that I wasn’t suffering with the usual colds I was prone to and my concentration and focus improved greatly. I was soon very curious about what else yoga had to offer which led me to diving into the spirituality, philosophy and history of this ancient yet ever-evolving practice.

Yoga soon became my go-to, allowing me to cultivate physical and mental flexibility as I moved through the ups and downs of life. In 2018 I felt the need to go deeper and decided to qualify as a yoga teacher with Tribe Yoga. My plan wasn’t actually to teach yoga but on realising it wasn’t as terrifying as I thought it would be I found myself happily sharing my practice with others as I took opportunities to learn and explore more and more. I’ve gone on to study Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra with Yoga Leela, Restorative Yoga with YogaLife and Somatic and Tantra Yoga with Rise Academy.

In 2020 I started to explore sound as a healing modality and began to incorporate it into my yoga offerings. I was particularly drawn to crystalline instruments, finding them more effective yet gentler than the more commonly used metal based instruments. In 2023 I began working with Alchemy Crystal Singing bowls and have found them transformative, accelerating not only my own sound medicine experiences but those I provide to others.

In 2022 I wanted to expand my knowledge further around wellness so I studied with the College of Naturopathic Medicine, qualifying as a Health Coach, specialising in stress management and sleep solutions. I’m an Ambassador for the College of Naturopathic Medicine and registered with the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners.

I’m ever curious about the expanding field of holistic and naturopathic healing and I’m usually studying it in one form or another at any given moment! I’m currently delving into the world of somatics and Tantric philosophy. Feel free to say hello via the contact form below or ask me any questions about my work or offerings.
